This extended grip safety is known as a beavertail. The beavertail is long and protects the web of your hand from hammer pinch. The larger area also makes the gun a lot more comfortable. This is good when you have to shoot your gun all day in a class. A lot of 1911’s come with this stock nowadays but in the old days you had to mod your gun to use one. Bolsa Gunsmithing machined the frame and fitted this Ed Brown Beavertail Grip Safety with Memory Groove. The bump helps ensure that the grip safety is going to get pushed down all the way even if you have a sloppy grip due to stress.
